Place Value..adding tens and ones

This week, we began our new math unit that focuses on place value and adding tens and ones.  You can practice in the car by giving your child a 2 digit number to break apart (74 is 70 +4) or to add (60 +3 =). Also, counting dimes and pennies or sorting objects into groups of tens and leftovers and then counting the total are other ways to begin to reinforce the concept.  Last Friday, we sorted a variety of objects into groups of tens and ones with a learning partner.
